MP1725 - Bowel - Portion of Ileum
This small loop of ileum illustrates the nature of the the arterial arcades in the mesentery (many short vasa rectae and more numerous arcades than in jejenum) which is shown in one small patch of the mesentery in which the fat and visceral peritoneum has been dissected to show the vessels and one ot two large lymph nodes surrounding larger vessels near the root of the mesentery. The distinct feature of the fat in the mesentery extending upto and indeed beyond the mesenteric border of the bowel is clearly evident. A small segment of ileum has been opened to reveal the nature of the mucosal folding (fewer but larger folds than jejenum) lining the lumen.
